The Ultimate Holidays Guide to Your First Day in Thassos

Your First 24 Hours in Thassos: A Perfect Day, Straight from Our Balcony

Hello! So, you’ve just arrived at Margio Bay. Welcome!

Before you even unpack, I bet I know the first thing you’ll do. The same thing everyone does. You’ll drop your bags, open the glass doors, and step out onto the balcony. You’ll see the sea, the mountains, and just… breathe. That feeling right there is what a holiday in Thassos is all about.

The big question is always, “what now?”. You’re tired from the trip, but you want to start enjoying yourself right away. Don’t worry. We’ve put together a little guide for a perfect, stress-free first day, where you barely need to walk more than a few minutes from your new “home”.

Morning (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Coffee, Pastries, and a Walk Through History

9:00 AM: First things first. Make yourself a coffee in our kitchen and take it out onto the balcony. There’s no better way to start the day.

10:00 AM: Time for a proper Greek breakfast. Take a 5-minute stroll into the main pedestrian area and find Sarantis Bakery. The smell alone is incredible. Grab a traditional cheese pie (tiropita) or a sweet cream pie (bougatsa). You can get a coffee there too, but if you want the best coffee with a view, grab your pastry and head to Island Bar right by the sea.

11:00 AM: Now that you’re energized, it’s the perfect time for a little exploring. You’re literally standing next to history. The Ancient Agora and the famous Ancient Theatre are just a few minutes’ walk away. No car, no stress, just a beautiful walk back in time.

Afternoon (1:00 PM – 6:00 PM): Lunch by the Sea and Your First Swim

1:30 PM: You’re probably getting hungry. Walk over to the old port. You’ll see lots of tavernas. Simi is a famous and fantastic choice for fresh fish, but honestly, you’re spoiled for choice with other beautiful little fish taverns even closer to the apartment. Our personal recommendation? You can’t go wrong with the grilled sardines (sardeles) or the mussels saganaki (mussels in a tomato and feta sauce).

3:00 PM: The best part? You’re just 30 metres from the sea. Grab the beach chairs we provide in the apartment, walk across the quiet road, and you’re there. The water is clear and calm. Go for your first swim of the holiday!

5:00 PM: Head back for a quick shower and a little siesta. The beauty of staying so close to everything is that you can pop back home to relax whenever you want.

Evening (6:00 PM Onwards): Sunset Swims and Magic Under the Stars in your holidays

6:30 PM: Okay, this is our favourite part of the day, a real local’s secret. That golden hour light is hitting the water. Forget the crowded sunset spots. Just walk back down to the beach in front of the apartment and go for a swim right as the sun goes down. The water is warm, the world is quiet… it’s pure magic.

9:00 PM: When you’re ready for dinner, Karas Restaurant is a fantastic choice for a relaxed and delicious meal.

11:00 PM: For a final drink, there’s only one place to go: Karnagio Bar. It’s the perfect spot to have a drink while you watch the moon over the sea. The atmosphere is just incredible.
